REPORT: 1000 ORPHANS CHRISTMAS PARTY - DECEMBER 2017
General Overview:
The 1000 Orphans Christmas Party - December 2017 was awesome, with the massive support of First National Bank, which partnered with FOS, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility.
The party took place on Saturday, the 16th of December, 2017 on the football park of the St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School at Cantonment in Accra. It was attended by children from these selected Orphanages in Ghana:
1. Great Mission International
2. The Lord's Arm Foster Home
3. Mawuviwo's Outreach
4. Assurance of Hope Orphanage
5. Beacon House
6. Countryside
7. United Heart Home
8. Haven of Hope
9. Hope Village
Also, for the first time, FOS invited children from these selected basic schools in Ayikuma:
1. Roman Catholic Basic School
2. Methodist Basic School
3. Ayenya Basic School
4. Tower of David Academy
In all, a total of 1,276 Children attended the Party. FOS made arrangements for all the Children and their Carers to be transported on Metro Mass buses to and from the venue of the party.
Unfortunately, the arrival of the children from their various destinations was delayed because Metro Mass did not book the buses for us on time. The children therefore arrived at the party between 10:00am and 12:00pm to meet the FOS team waiting anxiously to serve them. Each Orphanage Home / Group were immediately served breakfast as soon as they arrived.
After the opening ceremony and the welcome address, the FOS team took the Children through a Carol Service after which everybody watched the Christmas Play enacted by Mawuviwo's Outreach Programme (MOP). There were a lot of games and activities for the Children to take part in - bouncing and playing on the bouncy castles and trampoline; the Arts and Crafts workstations were also mounted for the Children to do some painting, drawing and coloring work; there was Music and Dancing and finally a Talent Show and Choreography (dance) Competition between Orphanages.
The children who actively took part in the activities were each presented with a stuffed animal/teddy bear by FOS. Each child was also presented with a party bag as well as with a storybook / workbook: Seven Lessons for Christmas (Stories of Siblings from the Bible).
As usual, food and drinks were in abundance; the Children loved the Khalypo drinks, the Coke and other drinks too were in abundance. At this party too, FOS ensured that each child also got a bottle of Coke/Sprite/Fanta with their meal. They also loved the bissap and iced milo drinks and the dinner rolls, and everybody had a good portion of the sponge cake. There was a lot of popcorn too and indomie before having their dinner!
Everybody was happy at the party. The party ended at 5.00pm and the Children were transported back to their Orphanages on the Metro Mass buses with a cup of Kool-Aid.
